The so called Mk 1 dials (or ‘double pinks’ as they are often referred to) are found on model ref. 1665 Sea-Dwellers with patent pending engraved case backs which were issued in 3 small batches with serials 2,117,XXX, 2,128,XXX or 2,228,XXX between 1967-1970 for the purposes of professional testing & development of the new Helium Gas Escape Valve, pre patent approval. On very rare occasions the remaining unused watches from the original batches, are known to have been delivered to Rolex retailers as the 1st examples of the new model ref. 1665 Rolex Sea-Dweller launched to the public circa 1971.
